Rest In Peace

Solo, Indonesia once again mourn, one son of the nation has passed away. The Maestro Kroncong Gesang Martohartono or later we all know by Gesang just had our last breath. He died on Thursday, May 20, 2010 at around 18:00 pm at the PKU Muhammadiyah hospital in Solo.
Based on information from the family, the deceased who was born October 1 Gesang years ago in 1917, the plan will be buried tomorrow after Friday prayers on Friday 05/21/2010 in the family cemetery Pracimaloyo Makamhaji Pajang. According to Yani, a nephew of the deceased, there is no final messages from Gesang, and the late afternoon could sing the song 'Jembatan Merah' and 'Bengawan Solo' but not to completion.

Gesang Marto Hartono, maestro keroncong born in Solo, Central Java, October 1, 1917. Bengawan Solo songs were created during six months in 1940, when he was 23 years old.

Gesang lived in at No. 5 Village Road Bedoyo Kemlayan, Serengan, Solo, along with nephew and his family, having previously lived in the house of Mayor Perumnas Palur Surakarta in 1984 for 20 years. He has parted with his wife in 1962. Selepasnya, choosing to live alone. He never had children.

Gesang initially was not a songwriter. Previously, he was just a singer keroncong songs for the show and only a small party in Solo city. He has also created a few songs, such as; Keroncong Roda Dunia, Keroncong si Piatu, and Sapu Tangan, during World War II. Unfortunately, this song is the third less than public acclaim.

At that young Gesang was sitting on the edge of the Solo River, whom he admired. Gesang initially was not a songwriter. Previously, he was just a singer keroncong songs for all occasions in Solo. Gesang creation of Songs popular other Bengawan Solo is the Jembatan Merah, and Caping Gunung.

As the appreciation for his work towards the development of music keroncong, in 1983 the Japanese established a park near the Solo Gesang. Management of the park is funded by Gesang Fund, an institution established for Gesang in Japan.

Traditonal Art "Gunungan"

Solo - Peak Prophet Birthday celebration that fell yesterday, Friday (26 / 2), Kraton Surakarta Kasunanan Mount held a ceremonial tradition. Activities and has close Sekaten absorbing thousands of citizens who come from different regions directly followed the procession Mount and fought various crops that are in each mound.

In addition to a parade of the earth and the mountains of the traditional Javanese food, is also not overlooked the heritage and diverse collection of gamelan Kasunanan Sultanate Palace. The procession is very similar to the one night carnival procession Suro, some time ago. The route starts from the Mount and then directed out of the palace towards the north and to the Grand Mosque of Surakarta, which is just west of the town square of Surakarta.

The parade was made thousands of residents flocked to come and watch directly Surakarta cultural events every year. They are enthusiastically watching closely though must be willing to be under the hot sun so oppressive. As the recognition of a citizen who came from Klaten, Sutrisno who said, "Want to watch directly from close range mas, and if I can go fight Mount, let her fortune so smoothly.", He said.

Mount parade procession ended in the courtyard Kasunanan the Great Mosque of Surakarta Palace, where residents who have been waiting since last, and then scrambled to get a variety that has been in Mount carnival earlier.

Solo Birthday 265th

Surakarta memorial day ceremony will be held on Wednesday February 17, 2010 at the Town Hall at 7:30 pm. All employees and municipal government employee during work hours would use Javanese traditional clothes “jawi jangkep keprajuritan”. At 15:00 pm the same day, Boyong Kedhaton carnival will be held which depart from Kottabarat to Town Hall through Slamet Riyadi street. Celebrating its birthday, the Javanese speech contest, mocopat competition, social action for poor students were also held and launching of Java letters from UNESCO.

Sekaten

Sekaten is held to commemorate the Prophet of Muhammad SAW’s birthday. In Sekaten celebration there are various shows and souvenirs sale and also various handicrafts. Grebek Sudiro

This event is held to celebrate the IMLEK day (Chinese New Year). There is a procession of some piles of Keranjang cakes (Chinese traditional cakes) going round Pasar Gede (the biggest traditional market in Surakarta). People in either Javanese or Chinese traditional clothes with lampions on their hands join the procession. Liong, Barongsai, and other attractions are also performed to celebrate the IMLEK day.

Boyong Kedhaton

The commemoration of the founding of Surakarta. Dated back from its first establishment in the year of 1745, Surakarta has now been 265 years old. There will be a macapat reading telling about the history of the Surakarta palace movement from Kartasura to a small village called Sala. The event is followed, then, by “kenduri” (religious memorial banquet).
